The 2024 season was not kind to former Clemson star running back Travis Etienne.
In his third year in the league, Etienne finished with his first sub-1,000-yard season, rushing for just 558 on 150 carries with two touchdowns. For the second time in three years, he finished with a sub-4.0 yards per carry average. It felt like the Etienne hype train had broken down.
This was pretty surprising given the fact that the Jaguars had one of the best young cores in the league just a couple of years ago with Trevor Lawrence and Etienne manning the backfield.
Unfortunately, the NFL is a "what have you done for me lately" business and the new Jacksonville coaching staff might want some immediate changes on offense.
Lawrence is obviously still going to be the quarterback, but Etienne might be fighting for his job as reports have surfaced from ESPN that the new coaching staff is "not so high" on the Clemson running back after his worst season as a pro.
To make matters even worse, the Jaguars spent a draft pick on Bhayshul Tuten who many believe could push both Etienne and Tank Bigsby for starting snaps.
I wouldn't be all that shocked if Etienne was playing for a different team next season or even at some point even sooner with a trade. I think Jacksonville's new staff is ready to make some changes and that starts in the backfield with the former first-round pick from Clemson.
There's been a lot of movement in the NFL this offseason with former Clemson players and I just get the feeling that Etienne is next -- a change of scenery might not be a bad thing.
