You can talk about slumps all you want, but true Tiger grit never goes out of style. After a brutal run where Clemson dropped 10 of 14, Erik Bakich’s crew finally roared back to life in California, torching Stanford for a season-best 18 hits on Sunday and locking up a massive 12-5 win to take the series.

That win at Sunken Diamond bumps Clemson to 21-12 (4-8 ACC) and gives this team the jolt it’s been searching for. The Tigers have the talent, but the polls still aren’t showing them love—at least not yet.

Sunday Fireworks at Sunken Diamond

The Tigers waited until it mattered most to unleash their bats. In Sunday’s winner-take-all showdown, Clemson flexed its offensive firepower with bombs from Jack Crighton and Bryce Clavon. That 12-run explosion capped off a weekend that started with a statement 9-3 win on Friday.

Friday night, Tryston McCladdie set the tone with three RBIs, and both Jason Fultz Jr. and Ty Dalley delivered a pair of hits apiece. But the headline belonged to Aidan Knaak (1-3, 4.55 ERA), who gutted out his first win of 2026 with the kind of toughness Tiger fans love.

Late-Inning Heartbreak and Rotation Questions

Clemson was just six outs away from a sweep, holding a 4-1 lead late on Saturday. Michael Sharman (4-1, 2.89) was lights out, slicing through Stanford’s order for seven innings on less than 80 pitches and giving up just a single run.

But the bullpen just couldn’t slam the door. Bakich handed the ball to Dion Brown and Justin LeGuernic, but Stanford clawed back with four runs. Alabama transfer Ariston Veasey stopped the bleeding with two outs, and Tyler Lichtenberger tried to spark a rally with a leadoff double in the ninth, but he was stranded at third as Stanford slipped away with a 5-4 win.

The Road Ahead

The ACC is still an absolute minefield, with six teams in the Top 25, headlined by No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 5 North Carolina. The Tigers might be on the outside looking in right now, but the road back is right in front of them.

Clemson closes out the California swing tonight at Santa Clara (9 p.m. ET, ESPN+), then it’s back to the friendly confines of Doug Kingsmore Stadium for a colossal Top-10 clash with the North Carolina Tar Heels.
