Christian Wilkins was one of the biggest names to be released this offseason in the NFL, but many believed that it was just related to his foot injury and the rehab to go with it.
However, details of a new incident involving Wilkins has come to light and while it's not reported to be the sole reason he was cut by Las Vegas, it didn't help his cause.
According to a report from ESPN, Wilkins reportedly kissed a teammate on the head and that player took offense to it and it also made the rest of the team uncomfortable. There's no word on who the player was or what he did after the alleged kiss, but it was the straw that broke the camel's back essentially.
There's no word on whether or not this led to his release, but it played a part, according to reprting from ESPN and Adam Schefter. He reported that the incident was not the sole reason he was cut, but it sounds like that played heavily into the decision -- it didn't help, at least.
The incident was filed to the Raiders' human resources department.
This is just a strange incident that may have seemed harmless in Wilkins' eyes, but the rest of the organiztion didn't quite feel the same way. That, coupled with "how Wilkins has treated rehab" to his injured foot led to his dismissal from the Raiders where he spent just one shortened season.
Other teams have already talked about looking into bringing him in, like the hometown New England Patriots which is the team Wilkins grew up watching and rooting for as a Massachusetts native.
We'll see if the details of this incident give New England some pause while considering signing him.
