Dabo Swinney got his wish. For a while, the Clemson football coach jokingly spoke about how nice it would be to have a guy like Ian Schieffelin come out for the team. It felt like a joke at first, but it came to fruition in a shocking manner this offseason.

Following one of the most successful seasons in Clemson hoops history, Schieffelin went through Senior Day festivities and seemingly exhausted his eligibility.

However, a fifth year spent in a different sport was on the table and Swinney took advantage. While Schiffelin did surprisingly put his name in the transfer portal just in case the NCAA approved a fifth year of eligibility rule, but it didn't take long for Dabo to swoop in and scoop him up.

Schieffelin later announced amidst all the rumors that he would, in fact, be joining Swinney's football team for the 2025 season as a tight end.

On Monday, he was given his official locker and jersey number.

The No. 18 will look clean on Schieffelin's big, athletic frame, and for anyone who believed he might play some defensive end as well, it looks like he's locked into the tight end spot -- at least for not. He could still play on both sides of the ball, but he's going to get his start at tight end.

The Tigers are hoping this pans out because Schieffelin has all the tools to become a legitimate passing game threat for Cade Klubnik but if he can't block, that will spoil those plans.

Schieffelin has to get to work immediately, and it looks like he already is.
