Tonight, the Clemson basketball team puts its perfect 4-0 ACC record on the line when the Tigers head to Louisville. It will be one of the more difficult tests that head coach Brad Brownell and his team will face in ACC play.
The Cardinals are 10-5 on the season and 3-1 in ACC play. They are riding a four-game winning streak that includes victories over Florida State, North Carolina, and Virginia. What's more, earlier in the season, Louisville notched wins over Indiana and West Virginia.
On the other side of the equation, the Cardinals don't have a bad loss on their resume. They have dropped games to Oklahoma, Duke, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Kentucky. Each of those teams are currently in the top 25.
Senior point guard Chucky Hepburn is tops among the five Louisville double-digit scorers with a 15.5 point-per-game average. He's also a stout defender which should make his one-on-one showdown with Clemson's point guard Jaeden Zackery one to watch tonight. If one of those players significantly out plays the other, it could tip the scales in this contest.
Another key for the Tigers could be the play of Chauncey Wiggins. The 6-foot-10 junior has played his best basketball of the season the past two games scoring 15 points and grabbing four rebounds against Cal and putting up 17 points and five rebounds against Stanford.
Prior to that, Wiggins had not scored in double figures for four games. However, that run of futility came after a streak of three games in which he averaged 13.6 points per game. Which Wiggins will show up tonight on the road?
So far, in the three true road games that Clemson has played, Wiggins has failed to score more than seven points or grab more than five rebounds. Clemson will likely need more out of the versatile forward if the Tigers are to prevail tonight.
This will be a key game in the ACC race with Clemson trying to keep pace with No. 4 Duke atop the conference table. The Blue Devils will also be in action on Tuesday night as they host a pesky Pitt team in Durham. However, Clemson fans will be locked in on what takes place in Louisville so let's look at all the information fans need to know ahead of this crucial conference battle.
