The Clemson basketball team faces a new challenge today as the Tigers travel to Dallas to take on the SMU Mustangs for the first time as ACC foes. Hopefully, head coach Brad Brownell and his team will keep their winning ways alive and continue to play solid basketball as they have for most of 2025.
Coming off of a week-long break, the Tigers should be rested and ready for the Mustangs. Meanwhile, the Mustangs played Wednesday night at Notre Dame so Clemson might have the fresher legs in this contest.
Overall, SMU is having a solid season at 20-6 and 11-4 in ACC play. They are No. 38 in the NCAA NET Rankings and will be looking to find a way to ensure that they are on the right side of the bubble by picking up a win that would carry tons of weight come Selection Sunday.
What's interesting, though, is that SMU has no Quad-1 wins this season. Going 0-4 in Quad-1 games, they will be desperate to pick up their first such victory by knocking off the Tigers.
In fact, much of SMU's success this year has been built on the strength of Quad-3 and Quad-4 games. They are a combined 15-0 in those types of games meaning that all but five of their wins have been Quad-3 or 4 wins.
The Mustangs put up plenty of points. They average 82.7 points per game which is 19th-best in America. However, they get to that point by spreading the wealth as they have six players who average over 10 points per game but none score more than 14. Boopie Miller a 6-foot junior guard from Chicago leads them with 13.4 points per game.
Another area where SMU is strong is on the offensive glass. They average over 13 offensive rebounds per game which is 38th-best in the country. We've seen at times this year that Clemson has struggled when allowing other teams to clean up on the offensive glass so that will need to be a focus for the Tigers in this contest.
The Tigers have played their way into consideration for a nice NCAA Tournament seed and if they can continue to rack up the ACC wins, especially in the ACC Tournament, they will potentially play their way into a top-16 national seed. For that to happen, though, they must stack up as many Quad-1 wins as they can and this is a rare Quad-1 opportunity in a conference that doesn't offer many this year.
So with that in mind, let's take a look at everything Clemson fans need to know ahead of this game starting with how to find it on television.

Clemson vs. SMU game notes
Notes courtesy of ClemsonTigers.com.
- Clemson and SMU will meet for just the third time in program history. The Tigers lost 65-59 in the last matchup in 2013-14 and you have to go all the way back to 1970-71 for the first meeting between both programs, a 67-51 win for Clemson.
- Clemson guard Chase Hunter is one of two players nationally to average at least 17.0 points and produce a shooting line of at least .480/.420/.880.
- Brownell has led the Tigers to the fourth-most overall wins amongst ACC teams since 2017-18 (162). The Tigers have won 85 games in the league, which ranks fourth in that same time frame.
- Clemson won its 11th ACC game this year by 10 points or more against Florida State (72-46) on Feb. 15. That extended a new school record for ACC wins in a season by double-digits (2022-23, 9). 11 of the 13 have been by 10 or more points, while three (North Carolina and Florida State (2x)) have been by 20 points.
- Clemson won its fifth consecutive ACC road game with its 72-46 win at Florida State. It tied the longest league road winning streak for the Tigers in 38 years. Clemson won five straight ACC road games in 1986-87 – Horace Grant's senior year. This stretch includes wins at Georgia Tech (70-59), at Pitt (78-75 OT), at Virginia Tech (72-57), at NC State (68-58) and at Florida State (72-46). The win at Florida State sealed Clemson's third winning ACC road record in school history.
