A handful of former Clemson basketball players were on NBA Summer League rosters this month and a few of them actually participated and fared pretty well.
We saw Hunter Tyson suit up for his Denver Nuggets, PJ Hall went to the Charlotte Hornets and became a star off the bench, Chase Hunter made an impact with the Pelicans, and Viktor Lakhin signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder after going undrafted, but unfortunately he didn't play because he's still healing from an offseason injury.
Brad Brownell has to be happy with how his former guys represented Clemson during Summer League play and here's how they fared:
Hunter Tyson (Nuggets): 12.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 32% shooting in 2 games
PJ Hall (Hornets): 9.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, 66% shooting in 5 games
Chase Hunter (Pelicans): 2.8 points, 1.4 rebounds, 20% shooting in 5 games
Viktor Lakhin (Thunder): Did not appear
Tyson played in just a couple of games and didn't shoot well, but he grabbed 18 rebounds over two games, showing his aggressiveness and willingness to crash the boards. Hall was an absolute spark off the bench for the Hornets, helping lead them to the Summer League title and eventually signing a two-way deal with the Memphis Grizzlies. Chase Hunter also didn't shoot well, unfortunately.
And as mentioned before, Lakhin didn't play because he's still healing from an injury.
Obviously Hall benefitted the most from Summer League play, parlaying his star performances off the bench into a two-way contract with the Grizzlies. We should expect to see him take the floor in the NBA next season -- he has a bright future.
