A bit of shocking news has hit the Clemson basketball community on Monday.
Beloved big man and graduating senior Ian Schieffelin has expressed interest in finding another year of eligibility and will be entering his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal, per Tobias Bass.

I don't know about you, but this feels like a punch in the gut. It's weird to think about Schieffelin suiting up for a different program next season, especially if he does get that fifth year, but he's at least going to try. He finished his senior year at Clemson in 2024-25 with a 27-7 record and averaged a career-best 12.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. He also shot just under 50 percent from the floor and recorded a career-high free throw percentage.
Schieffelin just feels like a Tiger through and through, so seeing him enter his name into the transfer portal, potentially looking to end his career elsewhere just feels wrong.
This is the new way of college sports, though.
Dabo Swinney has warned about the transfer portal for years and it's instances like these where guys are trying to find a fifth year of eligibility that could ruin the sport. Schieffelin was a fan favorite at Clemson and this could potentially change the way Tiger faithful look at him, especially if he were to end up somewhere in the ACC.
I get that he's trying to do something to better his career outlook by potentially improving his stock with one more year of college ball, but it just doesn't seem like he has eligibility left.
Although Clemson fans would love him back in a Tiger uniform next year.
