The 73rd Clemson baseball player to play in the MLB made his debut on Saturday night.
Logan Davidson, a former Clemson shortstop, made his MLB debut on Saturday night with the Athletics as they took on the Philadelphia Phillies.
Unfortunately, it resulted in an 0-for-1 night with a loss to the Phillies.
Davidson had himself an interesting night as he got just one at-bat and he struck out. Then he appeared in extras with the Athletics as he was the lead baserunner in the bottom of the 10th and had a chance to score the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly, but he was thrown out in a bang-bang play at home plate from center field.
Obviously he would have liked a better result from his debut, but he has to be thrilled to be in the majors and he'll make the most of his opportunity when he gets his first start.
We all know the talent is there, so Davidson just needs time.
In his three years at Clemson, Davidson hit .290 with 42 home runs and 142 RBIs. He also had 45 doubles, two triples, and 37 stolen bases which showed that he has plenty of speed. So that's what makes his out at home plate on Saturday night so surprising. He has enough speed to score on that play, but he learned firsthand that the majors are a different animal.
Though he played shortstop at Clemson and was a first-round pick by the Athletics in 2019, he is playing first base with Oakland. He'll get more opportunities to prove himself.
