Clemson football will enter the 2025 season down a playmaker.

Many Clemson fans logged on to X this afternoon only to see some bad news regarding a talented incoming freshman who just went through his first spring with the Tigers.

According to reports, freshman playmaker Marquise Henderson was dismissed from the team.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound freshman was dismissed from the program and Clemson's spokesperson said that the university wishes him the best as he moves forward.

It's unclear what the reasoning behind the dismissal was, but it doesn't really matter at this point because it was enough to force Dabo Swinney into this decision. It hurts to lose a guy like Henderson who had a bright future at Clemson, but if this is for the better of the team and the program, it had to happen.

The Honea Path, S.C., product enrolled early with Clemson in January and spent his spring trying to make moves up the depth chart. He was projected to join the backfield but thankfully he wasn't expected to have much of an impact early on with the running backs the Tigers currently have (Gideon Davidson is still my RB1 pick).

Henderson was one of the blue-chippers committed to Clemson's 2025 recruiting class and he was ranked No. 183 overall. He was listed as a running back and could've fit in at receiver as well, but his frame is a little small for the backfield unless he was going to be a primary receiving back.

Now the Tigers will have to move forward down a playmaker and some future depth. This is a tough loss considering fans were excited about him.

Losing a speedy playmaker hurts, but Dabo will have to stock up on that in 2026 and 2027.
