The 2025 MLB Draft is approaching and the top pro prospects in the country are trying to make names for themselves to improve their draft stock, especially if they're still playing college ball.
Cam Cannarella is one of those prospects.
After terrific freshman and sophomore years with the Tigers where he hit well over .330 combined with 18 home runs and 107 RBIs, he's taken a slight step back as a junior, batting .339 with just three home runs and 45 RBIs. He has been one of the stars of the team, however, making highlight plays in the outfield routinely.
He'll have a chance to improve his draft stock during the 2025 postseason which kicks off on Friday against USC Upstate, but some experts still see him as a first-round prospect.
According to the ESPN MLB Mock Draft, Cannarella could be going to one of the league's top teams in the top 40 picks.
The mock has Cannarella going at No. 40 overall after the prospect promotion incentive picks, the compensation picks, and the competitive balance picks from Nos. 28-37. The Mets and Yankees will draft right before the Dodgers at No. 40 and they could take one of the biggest steals of the field in Cannarella.
Here's what Kiley McDaniel of ESPN had to say about the pick:
"Cannarella hasn't looked quite the same as he did last spring and scouts seem to think he won't go in the top 20-30 picks. I think this drop is too far for his talent and would be another draft coup for the Dodgers."Kiley McDaniel, ESPN
Fortunately for Cannarella, he has the next couple of weeks to prove himself worthy of a first-round selection in the NCAA baseball tournament. A strong postseason run could land him in the first round but it wouldn't be too bad to be here in the later stages of that first-round process, selected by a World Series contender.
