Wednesday afternoon delivered the kind of recruiting news that makes Tiger fans' hearts skip a beat. C.J. Spiller, Clemson legend turned ace recruiter, just landed the running back he’s been chasing for the 2027 class.
Gary Walker, a four-star running back with game-breaking ability, is officially All In. He shut down his recruitment and picked Clemson over a who’s-who of college football powers—Penn State, Auburn, Florida State, and Virginia Tech all wanted him, but Spiller and Dabo Swinney wouldn’t be denied.
At 6-foot, 200 pounds, Walker is the first running back to join Clemson’s 2027 class, and he fills a huge need for the Tigers’ future backfield.

A Certified Championship Pedigree
Walker’s junior year at Creekside High in Fairburn, Georgia, turned heads across the Southeast. He tore through defenses for 1,669 yards and 20 touchdowns, making it look easy against some of the best competition around.
The recruiting services agree: Walker is a consensus four-star, ranked No. 159 overall by Rivals and the No. 7 running back in the country by 247Sports. He’s got the size, vision, and breakaway speed that Tiger fans love—and he’s the kind of player who could become a household name in Death Valley before long.
Swinney’s 2027 Class Infiltrates the National Top 10
With Walker on board, Swinney and the Tigers now have nine commitments in a 2027 class that’s turning heads everywhere. Clemson is building something special, and the rest of the country is starting to take notice.
Walker brings even more firepower to an offense that already features four-star receiver Trey Wimbley from Central, South Carolina. On defense, the Tigers are stacking up talent too, with four-star linebackers Bryce Kish out of Michigan and Max Brown from Georgia leading the way.
The rest of the class is loaded with three-star prospects who fit the Clemson mold—guys ready to develop into stars under this coaching staff. Quarterback Kharim Hughley, defensive lineman Jaden Wuerth, and a talented group of defensive backs like Jarrell Chandler, Harrison Luke, and Christian Chancellor Jr. give this class serious depth.
Summer hasn’t even started, but Spiller and Swinney are already making waves. The pipeline is flowing, the talent is stacking up, and the future in Tigertown looks as bright as ever.
