It's that time of the offseason in which we see numerous "top players in the NFL" rankings from anyone with a platform, but there are only a handful that can truly be trusted. All of them, however, are very high on former Clemson star Dexter Lawrence.
The former 17th overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft by the New York Giants has had a successful pro career to this point, and he's not done yet.
Entering his seventh season in the league, he's projected to be one of the best defenders in the NFL and a guy who could lead the Giants defense to greatness. While the offensive side of the ball is a mystery, the Giants can rely on Lawrence to get the job done on defense.
The veteran defensive lineman has had a great career thus far, totaling 310 tackles, 30 tacks, 36 tackles for loss, and 95 QB hits in 92 career games with 85 starts. He has been wreaking havoc for years and that's not going to stop any time soon.
Just how good is he on an NFL-wide basis? Pro Football Focus just release their "50 best NFL players" ranking and Lawrence is actually flirting with the top 10.
Lawrence comes in at No. 14 in PFF's ranking and the site says that he's the only interior defensive lineman to accrue a 90-plus grade in both pass rushing and run defense since 2022.
This is no surprise to anyone who has been following his career since his Clemson days where he won two national titles with the Tigers and had 134 combined tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, and four pass deflections in three years.
Maybe next year he'll be a top-10 player in the NFL, if he isn't already.
