Deshaun Watson, forever a Clemson Tiger in our hearts, is right in the thick of the quarterback battle up in Cleveland as OTAs heat up.
However, head coach Todd Monken has not seen enough from Watson to name him as the team’s starter, leaving him in a battle with Shadeur Sanders.
In 19 total games for the Browns, Watson has completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 3,365 yards and 19 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.
The former Tiger is entering the last year of his fully guaranteed $230 million contract, and after a tough stretch of suspensions and injuries, even owner Jimmy Haslam called the trade a swing-and-miss.
When asked about handling the mounting roster pressure, Watson explained, “I just come, show up every day. He’s the head coach. He’s the one calling the plays, and he’s gotta decide who he wants out there on the field. So at the end of the day, I’ve gotta just show up each and every day and be ready.”
Watson can feel his next big moment coming, and you can’t help but like his tone.
“One of my favorite baseball players that I’ve been watching is Bryce Harper,” Watson said. “Sometimes he swings, but he stands back up, and he gets another opportunity, and he hits a home run. So, you never know what opportunity might show up, and that’s what I have right now.”
