Dabo Swinney inspires little faith to a Clemson fanbase in dire need of a huge change

As the Clemson Tigers try to find some confidence with Tait Reynolds at quarterback, he is still 2.5 games into the season without a drive that resulted in a touchdown. There have been moments where he has provided a few embers of a spark offensively, but not enough to keep the increasingly frustrated fanbase at ease. Being down by multiple scores to North Carolina at halftime was not great.

If not for Tom Allen's hit-or-miss defense, this one could be much more out of control than it already is. The biggest takeaway from the first half is undeniably the home crowd's reaction to how poorly this former juggernaut of a program is playing. If UNC was supposed to be a bottom-feeder in the ACC, we can only wonder what is to come for the Tigers moving forward. This game feels definitive.

As expected, Clemson fans are one step closer to moving toward basketball season after this effort.

Clemson's downfall under Dabo Swinney is rolling like an avalanche coming down the mountain now.

While there is a great appreciation for what he has done for Clemson before, this is not good enough.

After settling for a field goal on its best drive with Reynolds to date, it feels like an inflection point.

It honestly feels like any sliver of hope for Clemson hinges on the Tigers having a solid second half.

Dabo Swinney could end up getting bought out anyway after this season

Even though this buyout of $57 million is massive, things are going to hell in a handbasket rather quickly under his watch. Unless the Tigers truly go up-tempo on offense during two-minute drills, they are not getting much of anything when they are possessing the football. Although special teams are holding up, the defense feels like it is one communication breakdown away from fully imploding.

At this time, the Clemson fanbase may need to have serious conversations about how much more they can stomach. Buying Swinney out will be a gigantically bitter pill to swallow, but this is starting to become untenable in record time. Clemson does not have the biggest boosters or one of the largest alumni bases out there, but it all keeps coming back to the same thing. This can't continue anymore.

Right now, the emotions of it all are getting in the way of logic. Clemson should not be in this awkward position where it wants to run Swinney out of town. He should be able to go out of his own accord, but the last year-plus has been a total referendum on the program Swinney once built. He may not want to go out like this, but there has not been a time when Death Valley has been as mad as it is right now.

Clemson may have only been down by 11 points at halftime, but this fanbase is all out of patience.
