Dabo Swinney just sent a message loud and clear to the rest of college football: Count the Clemson Tigers out at your own risk.
On Adam Breneman’s Next Up podcast this week, our fearless, championship-winning leader didn’t just talk the talk—he laid out a fiery vision for Clemson’s return to the mountaintop. The national media can keep doubting us all they want, but Dabo made it crystal clear: the Tigers are charging straight back to the top of college football.
“I am not saying we are going to win the national championship this year, but we are going to be better,” Swinney said on the podcast, which aired earlier this week. “We are going to take Clemson back to the top. You best believe that. But how we are going to do it is still driven by our purpose.”
Driven by an Uncommon Purpose
That purpose has been the heartbeat of Clemson football ever since Dabo took the reins in 2009. It’s a legendary four-part formula: graduate our players (nobody does it better than Clemson), mold young men for life after Death Valley, and make sure they leave here as winners on and off the field.
We give our guys a world-class college experience, and that’s why the Tigers keep their best talent while other programs scramble to plug holes in the portal. And let’s not forget: it’s about winning hardware. Out of Dabo’s 17 recruiting classes, only last year’s freshmen haven’t hoisted a conference trophy—yet.
For Dabo, all those historic wins are proof that doing things the Clemson way pays off.
“We have won by fulfilling the purpose,” Swinney said. “Yes, we are unique and we are different, and that is how we have done ‘the common things in an uncommon way and that is how we have commanded the attention of the world.’ We have lived that quote out for a long time."
Swinney openly acknowledged that the path to greatness requires constant adjustment, adding, “We are far from perfect. We screw up and we make mistakes, but we are always learning and we are always growing. We do not get away from our core values. We do not get away from the foundation of this program. We build this thing from the inside out.”
Embracing a Unique Roster Evolution
Even after sending nine Tigers to the NFL this April, Dabo’s confidence hasn’t wavered one bit. He knows Clemson is ready to take back our throne atop the ACC.
We stayed true to who we are, but this offseason, Clemson made a statement by bringing in 12 difference-makers from the portal—the biggest haul since the portal era began. It’s the perfect blend of modern roster building and the Clemson culture that nobody else can match.
“The way we have won, yeah, it is unique. Yeah, it is different, but I believe that is what has made us successful,” Swinney said. “You can do what everybody else does, or you can be unique and you can be different.”
Will this reloaded roster bring another ACC crown and a ticket back to the College Football Playoff? Time will tell. But with Dabo at the helm and our values burning brighter than ever, the rest of the country better buckle up—the Tigers are coming for the top, and we’re not backing down.
