Go ahead and keep doubting Dabo Swinney. History shows that when the national media counts out the Tigers, that is exactly when Clemson is at its most dangerous.
With college football hitting the 100-day mark before Week Zero, the noise is already deafening. The talking heads are everywhere, but this week ESPN dropped its season previews and put a Clemson comeback right in the heart of its top 10 'wild' predictions for 2026. The Tigers are back in the national conversation, whether the doubters like it or not.
The so-called experts might call it crazy to believe Clemson is ready to take back its throne, but ESPN’s David Hale knows what happens when you poke the bear that is a nine-time ACC champion. Dabo with a chip on his shoulder? That’s when the magic happens.
"Nobody loves proving the talking heads wrong more than Swinney, and 2026 could be his coup de grace," Hale said.
Hale went on to outline the exact blueprint that will have Clemson fans ready to run through a brick wall this autumn.
"He hired Chad Morris as his offensive coordinator. He eschewed going after a QB in the portal. He thumbed his nose at everyone who said the game has passed him by. And that'll make it all the sweeter when Swinney wins the ACC and makes it back to the College Football Playoff in 2026. The Tigers' first-round matchup? Ole Miss, of course. Winner gets to advance and claim ownership of Pete Golding's text records."
The Hunt Begins in Baton Rouge
Let the critics keep betting against us. Dabo Swinney is about to start his 18th full season leading the Tigers and his 26th year in Tigertown. He’s spent more than two decades building a powerhouse, and a little adversity isn’t about to tear down what he’s built.
The road to making the whole country eat their words starts September 5, when the Tigers storm into Baton Rouge for a prime-time showdown with LSU at 7:30 p.m. on ABC. The talking heads have handed Coach Swinney all the bulletin-board fuel he could ever want. Now it’s time to let the pads do the talking.
