Unfortunately, the offseason is underway early for Clemson basketball.
Brad Brownell and the Tigers lost to McNeese less than a week ago, getting bounced in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. It was a surprising early exit, especially since a lot of experts believed that the Tigers could make a run to the Final Four.
The loss spelled the end of the Clemson careers of Chase Hunter, Ian Schieffelin, Jaeden Zackery (still looking to return), Viktor Lakhin, Del Jones, Asa Thomas, and Chauncey Wiggins.
That meant that Brad Brownell had to get right to work in order to get the roster to a competitive level.
The transfer portal window opened on Monday amid much controversy because it happened while the NCAA Tournament was still going on. And Brownell has already gotten to work.
In fact, he has reached out to one of the best transfers in the portal, Cooper Schwieger, from Valparaiso and the Tigers are reportedly one of the four finalists for the soon-to-be junior.
Source told me Schwieger is down to Northwestern, Wake Forest, Clemson & Michigan.

Kansas is no longer in the running.
Heβs working to set up visits to schools. TBD on that. https://t.co/UI2ueHhlW4
Schwieger is one of the best transfer to hit the portal officially and he was contacted by a who's who of college basketball's elite. Kansas recently held a Zoom call with him, but he reportedly eliminated the Jayhawks from the running and is down to four schools: Clemson, Wake Forest, Northwestern, and Michigan.
Clemson needs replacements fro Lakhin, Schieffelin, and Wiggins in the frontcourt and Schwieger would be a good start. He averaged 15.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 49 percent from the floor and 30 percent from deep.
Brownell may be able to land his first big fish of the offseason after a visit.
