The Clemson Tigers will return to the hardwood on Friday night when they take on the American Eagles in their second game of the season. Clemson had a great first half against the Stetson Hatters on Monday evening before pulling back a bit in the second half. They still won 85-72 over the visiting Hatters, but second-half defense was a big concern for Brad Brownell after the game. Will he fix it?
As Clemson waits to see what unfolds with Dillon Hunter's eligibility, now that he is filing a lawsuit in Pickens County, SC, Brownell will have to find ways to get the most out of his nine-man rotation. The hope would be for Brownell to implement a deeper one against lesser competition before the season gets going, but keep in mind that the Tigers are short-handed with a few key players unable to suit up.
With the game rapidly approaching, here are the latest odds, how to watch it, and a final score pick.
Latest betting odds for Clemson Tigers vs. American Eagles
According to the FanDuel Sportsbook, Clemson will be laying 16.5 points to visiting American. The associated moneylines for this game are Clemson -3500 and American +1200. This means you would need to wager $3,500 on Clemson to win $100, while a $100 bet on American will pocket you $1,200. The projected point total coming in is 141.5. A final score may be around Clemson 79, American 62.5.
Clearly, American is a more worthy adversary coming in than Stetson was earlier in the week, as illustrated by the smaller point spread and the more reasonable moneylines to be had. Regardless, Clemson should still be able to come out on top at home quite easily over the Eagles. Of course, the Tigers did not cover the giant 25.5-point spread on Monday against Stetson, as they only won by 13.

Clemson Tigers vs. American Eagles game prediction
Even though American is probably a tougher opponent than what Clemson just went up against in Stetson, it would be a reasonable expectation for Brownell's Tigers to come out better on the defensive end of the floor throughout. Keep in mind they only have North Dakota after this before taking on Georgetown out of the Big East. Refinement will be key for Clemson in these early contests.
Look for Ace Buckner to continue to round into form at point guard, as well as Dylan Faulkner to get around 20 points in the frontcourt. This game could go one way or another if Cole Certa or Liutauras Lelevicius knock down their shots from outside the paint. If Clemson can get some more meaningful production out on the wing, the Tigers will have a chance to beat American handily at home to be 2-0.
Clemson should put forth a more consistent effort against American after pulling back on Stetson.
