Offense Gets Its Playmaker Back
The biggest news for Clemson is the likely return of wide receiver Antonio Williams. Listed as probable, the WR brings speed, reliability, and the ability to move the chains — something the Tigers’ offense desperately needs after averaging just 19 points per game. Cade Klubnik’s chemistry with Williams has always been a safety net, and having him back could be the difference in red-zone efficiency against Syracuse.
Reinforcements in the Trenches
Protecting Klubnik has been a work in progress, but help is on the way. Linemen Eliyah Thurmon and Tristan Leigh are also probable. Their presence should stabilize both the run game and pass protection, especially with Clemson down multiple backup running backs. A stronger pocket could give Klubnik more time to hit his young receivers and Williams in stride.
Barnes Boosts the Defense
On the defensive side, standout safety Khalil Barnes is probable to return. Barnes has been one of the Tigers’ most versatile defenders, equally effective in coverage and against the run. His availability is crucial against a Syracuse offense that leans on tempo and spacing, and his leadership could anchor a secondary that has been shaky at times.
What It Means
Dabo Swinney’s Tigers won’t be fully healthy — but the return of Williams, Thurmon, Leigh, and Barnes is massive. Clemson’s offense gains its most dynamic receiver and key line protection, while the defense regains a tone-setter in the back end. With the Tigers sitting at 1–2, these starters might be the difference between bouncing back or slipping deeper into an ACC hole.
