Clemson walked away with an overwhelming victory today, defeating the Citadel 51-14.
The Tigers dominated through the first half, going up 35-0 before heading into the locker room. With four plays over ten yards, including a 70-yard touchdown by Jay Haynes, Clemson's rushing attack took off. Still, the offense was pretty balanced, with Cade Klubnik throwing for 173 yards and two touchdowns.
After scoring within two minutes of coming out of halftime to go up 42-0, the Klubnik was pulled where the Tigers gained an additional 10 points, including star linebacker Barrett Carter getting in on the action with a 4-yard rush to cap the game off.
It might've seemed like a gimme game today, but it was an important step in Clemson making the ACC championship. The odds are slim, but with Miami playing an up-and-down team like Syracuse next Saturday, anything can happen. So, the Tigers needed this win to stay in the running.
Clemson's next challenge is in-state rival South Carolina. Nothing needs to be said to underscore the importance of that game for Clemson fans. The Chickens have had some success this season, especially on the defensive line, so the Tigers' offense will be put to the test.
