The final diagnosis on Clemson wide receiver Bryant Wesco is in, and while it ends his season, the overwhelming emotion from head coach Dabo Swinney on Monday was profound gratitude.
Swinney announced that Wesco has been released from the hospital and is resting at home, calling the positive long-term outlook the "best-case scenario" following a terrifying injury incident on Saturday.
“Prayers answered. Just a blessing, kind of best-case scenario,” Swinney said. “It was a very, very scary injury, and the doctors did an amazing job. … Again, a very scary injury and a lot of kind of unknowns for the first 24 hours or so, but he’s actually out of the hospital and back home."
The coach confirmed that the severity of the injury will sideline the team's leading receiver for the remainder of the 2025 campaign, but the focus was squarely on Wesco's well-being.
“He’s done for the year, for sure, but the doctors are very confident he’ll make a full recovery," Swinney stated. "But definitely something that will keep him out the rest of this season. But thankful that all indications are he’s going to be OK, and just a real blessing for that."
The loss of Wesco is a significant blow to the Clemson offense. The sophomore's season concludes with 31 receptions for 537 yards and six touchdowns.
For now, the team is focused on supporting their teammate's recovery.
"He got home today and was just kind of resting," Swinney said. "So hopefully he’ll be back over here tomorrow and just continue getting better one day at a time.”
