Remember about an hour ago when I said that Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney was the hottest name on the recruiting trail right now after landing five four-stars this past weekend?
Well, my point was further proven to be true on Monday afternoon as the Tigers' 2026 class grew by one with the commitment of three-star cornerback Marcell Gipson.
The three-star cornerback from Dallas, Texas, may not be the highest-ranked commit the Tigers have landed this cycle, but he held about 30 offers from the likes of Ole Miss, Washington, Wisconsin, Texas Tech, Oregon, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, and Kansas State. He's not exactly a slouch.
Gipson is ranked the No. 759 recruit in the class and he's the 67th-best cornerback, according to the composite. Plus, he plays against elite competition in the talent-rich state of Texas.
The Tigers now have their second cornerback commit in the class as Gipson follows the footsteps of three-star Shavar Young Jr. who committed to Clemson back in August. Those are currently the only two defensive players committed to the Tigers in the 2026 class and I'm positive that will be the focus moving forward. The class is now up to 12 commits.
Swinney just landed four-stars Chancellor Barclay, Connor Salmin, Naeem Burroughs, Adam Guthrie, and Grant Wise over the weekend, growing the class to 11 before Monday's commitment by Gipson. The Tigers went from the 30-range for the 2026 class and they're not up to No. 3 in the country.
It's been a heck of a week for the legendary Clemson coach and the program feels like it's on the rise.
