Clemson’s huge official visit weekend is off and running, and Dabo Swinney just landed a statement win out wide to kick things off.
On Friday afternoon, electric three-star wideout Julian Cromartie made it official: he’s a Tiger. Cromartie picked Clemson over hard charges from Kentucky and Kansas, becoming the first pledge of the Tigers’ high-stakes May 29–31 recruiting bash. The experts called it, and now it’s real—just as the next wave of prospects rolls into Tigertown.
With Cromartie locked in, Clemson looks to have wrapped up one of the most dangerous 2027 receiver groups in the country.

Physical Dominance Matched with NFL Royalty
At 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, Cromartie gives Chad Morris a true mismatch nightmare on the outside—someone who can go up and snatch those 50/50 balls in the end zone. But it’s not just the size. Cromartie brings serious football pedigree to Death Valley:
- The Father: Son of former Florida State legendary cornerback Antonio Cromartie, a first-round NFL draft pick, four-time Pro Bowler, and First-team All-Pro.
- The Brother: Current Florida State defensive back Antonio Cromartie Jr., who is entering his sophomore year in Tallahassee.
Even with all that garnet and gold in his family tree, Julian is carving out his own legacy in Clemson orange.
Torching the Lone Star State
Cromartie started out at powerhouse Mater Dei Catholic in Chula Vista, California, where he put up wild numbers as a sophomore—six touchdowns on just 14 grabs. Wanting a bigger stage, he moved to College Park High in The Woodlands, Texas for his junior year, and that’s where he really took off.
He torched Klein Cain for 239 yards and two scores in his signature game, and wrapped up his junior season with 42 catches, 824 yards, and 13 touchdowns—an eye-popping 19.6 yards per catch. That kind of production brought a flood of Power Four offers from the likes of Michigan, Georgia, and FSU, but Clemson made its move at just the right time to lock in his last visit.
Wide Receiver U: Class of 2027 Closed?
Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman switched his pick from Kentucky to Clemson on Monday, and Clemson247’s Austin Hannon followed suit on Wednesday. With Cromartie’s Friday commitment, the Tigers have officially locked down the perimeter for this class.
Cromartie completes a perfectly balanced trio of wideouts for the 2027 class, joining:
- Four-star Trey Wimbley: The highly touted local product.
- Four-star Jamarin ‘Waffle House’ Simmons: The dynamic, top-tier playmaker.
With these three locked in, it’s no surprise that four-star targets Tae Walden Jr. and Lawrence Britt called off their Clemson visits, and the staff is just fine letting DeShawn Hall lean toward Auburn. Dabo Swinney landed his top choices, closed the deal, and the future of the Clemson passing attack looks flat-out golden.
