One day after the news broke that Clemson was on the verge of hiring its new DC, the deal is now done. Tom Allen is officially its new defensive coordinator.
Per Clemson athletics, head coach Dabo Swinney will introduce Allen to the media on Wednesday, January 15, at 1:30 PM (CT). The press conference will be at the Smart Family Media Center and live-streamed on ClemsonPlus.com.
Allen spent one season with Penn State as its DC, leading them to the Big Ten championship game and three rounds of the College Football Playoffs. Before coaching the Nittany Lions, he was the head coach at Indiana, finishing his seven-year stint with a 33-49 record.
When asked about his new DC, Swinney said, “We’ve got a great football coach — and a great leader of men — coming to Clemson... He brings a ton of experience and was highly recommended by some of the best people in this business."
As Swinney continued, he brought up Allen's outstanding season at Penn State. "He is obviously coming off of a great year as the defensive coordinator at Penn Stat," said Swinney. "We’re excited to welcome him as our defensive coordinator here at Clemson.”
