With 2026 bringing everything from monthly revenue-sharing checks to seismic changes across the sport, it’s easy to see why so many programs are scrambling and selling out for a shot at relevance. But through all the chaos, Clemson’s own Dabo Swinney stands firm, refusing to budge an inch on what matters most.

When Dabo took the podium at ACC Kickoff, he didn’t get softball questions. Instead, he was asked point-blank how he keeps coaching with faith, integrity, and a commitment to family values while college football seems to lose its way.

"Boy, what a question! Oh, I mean, one thing I think is that my identity is not what I do. You know, I know a lot of people. That's what they see me as, the Clemson coach, and they see me as whatever. But that's really not my identity, and my identity is in Christ. The foundation of my life is built on faith," Swinney confessed to the packed media room.

Hearing Dabo speak these words sWhen Dabo talks like this, you can feel the pride surge through Tiger Nation. The national media loves to paint him as just another coach or a set of numbers, but anyone who’s watched this program knows better.

Swinney didn’t shy away from talking about the emotional rollercoaster that comes with leading a top-tier program. In today’s world of hot takes and social media outrage, the line between being called a genius and being ripped apart is paper-thin. Dabo pulled back the curtain on how he deals with all the noise that comes with being at the heart of Clemson football year after year.

"I was talking about this with somebody other day. I don't even know who I was talking to, but just in this world, and I love it all. I love it all. I mean, it just you know it's what we signed up. But you get a lot of love, you get a lot of hate in this world, this especially this journey that we are on. Get a lot of love, get a lot of hate, and I've had a bunch of both enough for a lifetime," Swinney remarked with a knowing smile.

Clemson fans know the drill. One week, the Tigers are the toast of the nation after a big win. The next, the same pundits and bandwagon fans are ready to jump ship if a single play goes sideways. Dabo called out this fickle, results-driven criticism and broke down exactly why it misses the bigger picture.

"All of that stuff is circumstantial. You know, it's based on if you do this, then that. If this, then that. Man, if we got that one more yard, one they love you, but you came up one yard short, they hate you, and you know that's all circumstantial," Swinney explained.

This is exactly what sets Clemson apart from the rest of college football. Swinney doesn’t let wins or losses define him or his team.

Swinney wrapped up his answer by doubling down on the promises that guide his life, then wasted no time getting back to business with the media ready to fire off more questions.

"But but that's again why I put my life on a foundation of faith because you know you know God's promises, God's peace and grace, and that never changes. You know, that's not circumstantial. So that's how I live my life. That's how I have perspective and whatever else, and how I have the ability to manage things, still sting. I mean, circumstances are bad, but it gives me the right perspective to believe and have hope it's going to be better. So, thankful for that,” Swinney concluded.

The message for 2026 is simple. While everyone else chases the latest trend, Clemson is sticking to what works—an identity and culture that don’t change with the wind. Trust Dabo, trust the process, and get ready. This fall, the Tigers are coming out with something to prove.
