Tigertown is buzzing, and the national media can't keep up. Clemson just landed a huge crystal ball flip for a legacy recruit with NFL bloodlines, and the excitement is off the charts.
On Monday morning, Rivals' Sam Spiegelman made it official: his pick for electric three-star wideout Julian Cromartie is now Clemson, not Kentucky. That’s a thunderbolt of momentum for Dabo Swinney and the Tigers, who are now running the show just days before the May 29–31 recruiting bash in Death Valley.
A Rare Mix of Size, Speed, and NFL Genetics
Cromartie is no ordinary three-star. At 6-foot-4 and a rock-solid 200 pounds, he looks every bit the part of a classic Clemson boundary receiver—the kind Tiger fans have cheered for years.ds familiar, it’s because his father is former Florida State legendary cornerback Antonio Cromartie—a first-round NFL Draft pick, four-time Pro Bowler, and First-team All-Pro selection. Julian's brother, Antonio Cromartie Jr., also proudly suits up for the Seminoles after signing with FSU last February.
Even with deep family roots in Tallahassee, Julian is blazing his own trail. After flashing big-play ability as a sophomore at Mater Dei Catholic—six touchdowns on just 14 grabs—he moved to College Park High in Texas and absolutely lit up the Lone Star State. Cromartie racked up 42 catches, 824 yards, and 13 touchdowns, torching defenses for nearly 20 yards a pop. including Georgia, Michigan, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, and his father's alma mater, Florida State.
Chad Morris Closes the Distance
Clemson might have joined the race a little late, but they wasted no time making noise. Chad Morris, the new OC, saw Cromartie in person this month and wasted zero time—he handed out a Clemson offer on the spot.
The effect was immediate. Cromartie already checked out Kansas, but Clemson gets the all-important second visit this weekend. Kentucky is hoping to get him on campus June 5, but if Dabo and the staff work their usual magic, the Wildcats might not even get their shot.
Mapping Out the Wide Receiver Board
And Cromartie isn’t coming alone. The May 29–31 weekend is shaping up to be a who’s who of elite receivers, as the Tigers look to reload for the 2027 class:
- Lawrence Britt (4-star WR): Has Clemson firmly entrenched in his top six and will be on campus alongside Cromartie this weekend.
- Tae Walden Jr. (4-star ATH): A dynamic playmaker scheduled to take an official visit this weekend.
- DeShawn Hall (4-star WR): Included Clemson in his top seven, though regional analysts currently project him trending heavily toward Auburn.
Everything is lining up perfectly for Coach Swinney and the Tigers. If Cromartie’s flip sticks, “Wide Receiver U” is about to add another showstopper to the arsenal.
