Clemson football fans have been spoiled over the years by great quarterback play and that dates back to when Dabo Swinney landed his first five-star gunslinger in 2009.

Since then, the Tigers have fielded three five-star quarterbacks with the most recent currently manning the offense in Cade Klubnik.

How do these former Clemson five-stars rank among the five-star quarterbacks in the modern era?

According to The Athletic, as reported on by TigerNet, Clemson has been home to two of the best five-star quarterbacks in the modern era. You will have to subscribe to see the entire list, but according to TigerNet, Trevor Lawrence is ranked the No. 5 five-star quarterback of the modern era while Clemson legend Tajh Boyd is No. 15.

Boyd is a name that almost gets forgotten when talking about the elite quarterbacks to come through the program, but he led the Tigers to their first ACC title in 20 years in 2011. The former five-star quarterback threw for nearly 12,000 yards and 107 touchdowns in his career and he was part of the first really successful crop of players under Dabo Swinney.

As for Lawrence, he was an easy choice to be in the top five on this list as he was considered one of the best pro prospects in years when he did come out after his junior season in 2020.

In just three years (and 40 games), Lawrence threw for over 10,000 yards and 90 touchdowns and had just 17 interceptions. He helped lead Clemson to its second national title in three years as a freshman in 2018. He was special.

You might be wondering how Deshaun Watson didn't make the list after his successful Clemson career and it's because he didn't quite make the five-star cut. He was the No. 42 recruit in his class.

Dabo has had some elite talent under center during his tenure.
