After securing that first official visit from Jae Lamar on May 30, it felt like Clemson football may be in the driver's seat for one of the best running backs in the 2026 class.

The four-star from Moultrie, Ga., was looking like a Georgia-lean early on, but his trip to Clemson may have changed some things as he rose up Dabo Swinney's big board of 2026 targets. He was arguably the top running back target for the Tigers, but they would have to wrestle him away from Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs.

Unfortunately for Clemson, while it had the first visit (a major advantage), Georgia had the final official visit schedule (an even bigger advantage). And it looks like that may have been the decider.

While there's really been no indicator of what to expect when Lamar makes his college decision on Wednesday afternoon, a telling crystal ball came in from a Clemson insider for Georgia earlier in the day. That doesn't make it "official" as recruiting is fluid, but it's a relatively telling sign of what to expect.

Lamar is expected to make his decision at around 2:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday and he's picking between Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, Miami, Georgia Tech, and Florida State.

The signs are now pointing to Georgia.

This definitely hurts as Lamar was considered by many to be the most talented back on Clemson's board and he's ranked No. 8 at the position in the 2026 class. He's also the Np. 107 overall prospect and the No. 12 recruit from the state of Georgia.

It's time to zero in on a new running back target if this one goes the way it's looking.
