The first unexpected transfer portal loss of the offseason for Clemson baseball is officially upon us.
After a decent season with limited action, outfielder and top-350 prospect in the 2024 MLB Draft TP Wentworth has entered the transfer portal on Friday, thinning out that depth a little bit.
The news was reported first on Friday afternoon.
This is the first unexpected loss of transfer portal season for Clemson. Wentworth came on late in the year.

But with Ty Dalley, Ryan Wideman, Bryce Clavon, and Nate Savoie transferring in, the Tigers' outfield is pretty deep (if Dalley and Wideman make it campus, obviously). https://t.co/WLPhNzJZ0o
Wentworth didn't have a great season, by any means, just hitting .220 at the plate, but he was used sparingly and came on later in the year like Clemson reporter Jon Blau said above.
Also, as he said, this is the first unexpected loss of the offseason.
While it is unexpected, it shouldn't hurt the Tigers too much considering they have landed plenty of talent from the portal. Erik Bakich has lived in the portal since being eliminated in the Clemson Regional by Kentucky a couple of weeks ago and it's paid major dividends. He's landed some legitimate MLB talent in the form of Ty Dalley and Ryan Wideman who may not make it to campus ultimately, but the current plan for them is to suit up for the Tigers.
Fans have been clamoring for major portal usage this offseason after losing Cam Cannarella and watching the pitching staff struggle mightily all season and Bakich listened.
With the loss of a depth piece like Wentworth who was hoping to crack the starting lineup next season, Bakich will have to get back to the drawing board to identify more talent.
Overall, it's been a very successful offseason for Bakich so far. Hopefully next year at this time, the Tigers won't be in the middle of their offseason and instead will be playing in the College World Series.
