While Dabo Swinney and his staff are locking down a red-hot, consensus top-10 class for 2027, cornerbacks coach Mike Reed is already laying the foundation for another elite Tiger secondary in the class of 2028.

June 15, 2026, was circled in orange on every recruiting calendar, as it kicked off the open contact period for the class of 2028. Clemson wasted no time making a statement, storming into the Sunshine State and planting the Tiger Paw right in the heart of rival territory with offers to two of Florida’s most coveted young corners: Izayah Vickers and Kahmaree Crumity.

These new offers double Clemson’s public defensive back targets for 2028, joining Dominic Williams Jr. and Giovannia Tuggle on Mike Reed’s ultra-selective wish list. The Tigers are making it clear: only the best of the best get a shot to wear orange.

The Elite Speedster: Four-Star CB Izayah Vickers

Straight out of Tallahassee, Izayah "Turbo" Vickers has been turning heads since he first suited up for the Florida State University School Seminoles as an eighth grader. Now a consensus four-star, Vickers is known for his bone-rattling hits and blazing speed—a rare combo that would look right at home in Death Valley.

  • National Standing: Vickers is a true blue-chipper, ranked No. 88 overall in the country, the No. 11 cornerback in his class, and the No. 13 player in talent-loaded Florida. That’s the kind of pedigree Clemson fans have come to expect.
  • Sophomore Track Record: Vickers was a one-man wrecking crew in 2025, piling up 65 tackles, three tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, and three fumble recoveries. That’s the kind of production that gets Tiger Nation buzzing.
  • The Early Prediction Landscape: Vickers’ recruitment has caught fire, with big names like Miami, South Carolina, and Ole Miss all chasing him. He’s only taken a couple of unofficials so far—Florida in March, Notre Dame last week—but now that Clemson is in the mix, the whole race changes. The Gators and Irish might have the early edge, but the Tigers are about to make things interesting.

The Battle-Tested Physical Corner: Kahmaree Crumity

Just down the road from Vickers, Lincoln High’s Kahmaree Crumity is another Tallahassee star who has college coaches in a frenzy. Crumity’s recruitment is in overdrive, with a jaw-dropping 42 offers already on the table before he’s even started his junior year. That’s the kind of competition Clemson loves to take on.

  • National Standing: Crumity is a consensus national prospect, ranked No. 323 overall, No. 34 among corners, and No. 47 in Florida by 247Sports. He’s the kind of under-the-radar gem that Mike Reed has turned into a Tiger star before.
  • The Scouting Tape: After posting 19 tackles and a forced fumble in limited action as a freshman at Gadsden County, Crumity’s sophomore tape demonstrated a player who is profoundly natural in both man and zone coverage. Furthermore, at 175 pounds, he plays with a punishing, physical edge at the point of attack that belies his current frame.
  • The Early Prediction Landscape: Crumity has been racking up the miles this spring, checking out Florida, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, and—most importantly—a key stop in Tiger Town just last week. The early numbers say Florida has a slight edge, but Clemson is right on their heels and gaining ground fast.

The Strategic Formula Behind Early Offers

Swinney’s program is famous for its ultra-selective approach. Clemson doesn’t just toss out offers to anyone—every scholarship is earned. So when the Tigers make a move like this in Tallahassee, you know it’s with purpose and confidence.

By jumping on Vickers and Crumity from day one, Mike Reed is making sure Clemson builds real relationships before the summer camp circuit heats up. These guys have seen what Florida and Notre Dame have to offer, but now the Tigers are in the mix early, setting themselves up as a top contender as the 2028 class starts to take shape.
