Christian Bentancur is quickly emerging as Tait Reynolds' favorite tight end target

It was the first of hopefully many more to come. In Tait Reynolds' first career start, he completed 20-of-29 passes for 215 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in Clemson's 28-20 win over the North Carolina Tar Heels. While he has gotten better with every snap that he has taken, Reynolds looked relieved to finally throw the first touchdown pass of his career. Christian Bentancur made it happen.

During an episode of 2 Right Turns, Reynolds and Bentancur reflected on the game-changing play. This key touchdown helped Clemson spark the epic comeback over the Tar Heels. "Man, I just saw Christian wide open, so I gotta give him the ball," Reynolds said of the 27-yard touchdown pass to Bentancur. "Christian made a great play. He's reaching for the end zone there. It makes it easy on me."

"You know, you fake the screen. You just basically find some grass, and you see no one around you. You're like, 'Alright, I'm scoring this touchdown,'" Bentancur said about being on the receiving end of that touchdown strike. "I got hit at like the five right there, and I was like, 'There is no way I'm going down right here.' So I like stuck my hand out and kinda jumped in the end zone. The rest is history."

Look for these emerging offensive stars for Clemson to build on their rapport heading into Week 4.

Tait Reynolds' budding rapport with Christian Bentancur serves Clemson

Even though Reynolds has only completed three passes for 44 yards to Bentancur over the last two games, a tight end is always a new starting quarterback's best friend. While TJ Moore and Bryant Wesco Jr. are both marvels outside the numbers, we can look for Reynolds' budding rapport with Bentancur to blossom as the season progresses. It is all about getting comfortable with each other.

Because Chad Morris wants to go uptempo, look for the short-to-medium passing game to open up for these Clemson playmakers. Of course, all offensive success for the Tigers shall be predicated on how much the running game improves. Gideon Davidson has finally taken control of the lead back role, but he needs Chris Johnson Jr. to be a bigger part of the offensive game plan moving forward.

As Clemson looks to find its footing offensively with Reynolds running point, it is only a matter of time before his favorite receiving targets start to emerge. Again, Moore and Wesco will have to be a huge part of the Tigers' passing game if Clemson wants to move up the ACC hierarchy in short order. That being said, Bentancur quickly establishing himself as Reynolds' go-to tight end target can only help.

Right now, Friday night at Cal will serve as a huge growth opportunity for Reynolds. He outperformed Billy Edwards Jr. in Week 3's ACC opener victory over North Carolina. While going up against Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele will be a unique challenge, it only gets harder in Week 5 with Miami coming to town. Not only is Miami the favorite to win the ACC, but Darian Mensah could win the Heisman Trophy.

We can only hope that Reynolds' growing comfortability with Bentancur shows up versus California.
