Nothing is official until National Signing Day. While five-star wide receiver Jamarin Simmons has been committed to Clemson for several months now, that is not going to stop Jon Sumrall and his Florida Gators from trying to poach him. Simmons revealed to 247Sports' Tyler Harden that he has been impressed with how well Florida wide receivers coach Marcus Davis has been developing his unit.
"Coach Davis is doing good things with them guys," Simmons said to Harden. "Dallas Wilson, Vernell Brown [III], them boys doing great things."
Again, Simmons has been committed to Clemson since May 20. The five-star from Tallahassee is the No. 11 player from Florida, the No. 16 wide receiver in the country, and the No. 94 player in the 2027 class, per the 247Sports Composite. He has 29 offers, but increased interest coming from Florida is something wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham and the rest of the Clemson staff will have to monitor.
Even though Grisham is his primary recruiter to Clemson, Simmons' potential success for the Tigers could be contingent on Chad Morris' coaching chops. Morris inherited a strong receiving corps in his first season back as the Tigers' offensive coordinator. Clemson has sent so many star wide receivers to the NFL in recent years. However, Florida seems to have the better-run offense through two weeks.

Simmons has taken notice of how Marcus Davis has utilized Florida’s receivers and the success they’ve had early on.

Jamarin Simmons might need to see more out of Chad Morris' offense
There may come a point where Simmons may have to look out for his best interests. If those remain at Clemson, then more power to him. That being said, Florida looks to be in a better place than it was only a year ago under Billy Napier. Sumrall has yet to play anyone significant, but he did lead Tulane to the College Football Playoff last year before leaving New Orleans for Gainesville.
Sumrall is a defensive-minded head coach at his core, but he has shown to be totally comfortable with delegating this so far in his Florida tenure. It has allowed other coaches to flourish under his guidance. Davis is a prime example of this. Under Buster Faulkner, David has been empowered to make a difference in the Florida receiving room. Maybe this will persuade Simmons to flip to Florida?
Right now, Simmons may need to see more out of the blast-from-the-past offense Morris is running at Clemson to stay committed. While the receivers have looked the part at times, it is hard to gauge what this offense could become without improved quarterback play. Pivoting to Tait Reynolds off Christopher Vizzina could be to Clemson's benefit long-term, but he is only a true freshman after all.
In short, Clemson cannot keep having lackluster performances offensively week in and week out if it wants to keep five-stars such as Simmons committed to its cause. Swinney may be proficient at coaching up wide receivers, but if Morris cannot devise ways to get these skill-position playmakers the ball more readily, Simmons may very well consider other options closer to his native Tallahassee.
New is not always better, but Florida has been far better than Clemson on offense so far this season.
