Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik provided the swagger, and the Tigers' defense provided the stops in a much-needed 24-10 victory over Florida State on Saturday night.

Klubnik, who accounted for both of Clemson's touchdowns, made headlines before the game even started by wearing a cowboy hat during the Tiger Walk, a move he apparently kept secret even from his own family.

When asked if he intended to surprise them, Klubnik smiled.

"I just felt like it was time. Yeah. Yeah, I guess I surprised them."

Will the new accessory make another appearance this season? "Oh, we'll see," Klubnik said. "Who knows."

Klubnik gave the Memorial Stadium crowd reason to cheer early, scoring the game's first touchdown on a 4-yard rush in the first quarter. He later connected with wide receiver Antonio Williams for a 34-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. He finished the night an efficient 20-for-27 passing for 221 yards and the score.

Known for his strong faith, Klubnik was asked how he felt God played a role in the outcome.

"I think he plays a role in every game," Klubnik said. "Personally, I don't think that – it's funny, Antonio said this a few weeks ago. I don't think that God really cares if we win or lose. I think that he cares more about our heart through the trials and through the ups and downs."

He continued: "So, obviously, he's shined through it, but he's shined through every game this year, and that's what we need to continue to lean on."

The Tigers, who improved to 4-5 on the season, have a short week ahead as they prepare for a Friday night game at Louisville. When asked what he expects from the Cardinals' defense, Klubnik said his focus had been singular.

"Of Louisville's defense? I'm not sure. I haven't watched anything yet," he said. "I've been focused on this game and taking a long week at a time. So, yeah, I haven't watched anything yet. I'll start tomorrow morning."
