The preseason hype train is rolling into Tigertown, and Clemson is right at the center of it. On Wednesday, Athlon Sports dropped its preseason All-American teams, and once again, the Tigers are getting the respect they deserve from the national media.
Dabo Swinney’s squad is turning heads on both sides of the ball, with junior linebacker Sammy Brown and electric wideout Bryant Wesco Jr. both earning national honors and showing the country what Clemson football is all about.
Sammy Brown locked down a third-team All-American spot on defense, proving once again he’s one of the nastiest front-seven defenders in the country. The Georgia native is coming off a monster sophomore year where he led the Tigers with 107 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks. He’s the heart and soul of this Clemson defense, and he’s only getting better.
On offense, Bryant Wesco Jr. is back in the spotlight, grabbing fourth-team All-American honors. That’s music to the ears of Tiger Nation after his scary neck and back injury last November. Seeing Wesco get this kind of national love is a huge boost for Clemson fans who know just how special he is. Before that injury, the Texas product was lighting up the ACC, hauling in 31 catches for 537 yards and a team-high six touchdowns in just seven games. That put him in elite company with Tiger legends like DeAndre Hopkins, Deon Cain, and Sammy Watkins for most touchdowns in the first six weeks of a season.
Now, Wesco is fully cleared, tipping the scales at a rock-solid 190 pounds, and brings 72 career catches for 1,245 yards and 11 touchdowns back to the huddle. Pair him with fellow junior T.J. Moore, and new starting quarterback Christopher Vizzina has one of the best wide receiver duos in the country at his disposal.
