Dabo Swinney and his crew stormed into enemy territory and came out with a massive win, landing elite 2027 four-star safety Jarrell Chandler. This is the kind of recruiting victory that Tiger fans will be talking about for years.

Chandler, the pride of Halls High in Knoxville, made it official: he’s trading in Volunteer orange for Tiger orange and purple. Beating out Tennessee, Miami, and Vanderbilt for a player of this caliber is a statement. Clemson just added a game-changer to the 2027 class, and the rest of the country is on notice.

The Midnight Ride to Knoxville

All spring long, the so-called experts had Chandler penciled in for Tennessee. The Vols rolled out the red carpet, bringing him in for three unofficial visits in March. Meanwhile, Chandler only needed two trips to Clemson—one for that electric LSU opener and another for the Elite Retreat—to know where he belonged.

But you know Dabo’s staff wasn’t about to let this one slip away. Last week, Tom Allen, Thomas Allen, and Nolan Turner made the trip to Knoxville themselves, showing Chandler just how much the Tigers wanted him in orange.

That late push flipped the script. Miami tried to sell Chandler on playing linebacker, but his heart was set on the secondary—and Clemson promised him just that. By the weekend, recruiting insiders were already calling it for the Tigers. Clemson took control and never looked back.

A Lethal Two-Way Playmaker

It’s no mystery why Swinney and company circled Chandler’s name in red. At 6-3, 210 pounds, he’s a blue-chip stud—No. 91 overall in the Rivals300, the sixth-best safety in America, and the fourth-best player in Tennessee. That’s the kind of talent that changes a defense.

Chandler’s junior year was a highlight reel: 94 tackles, six for loss, eight pass breakups, a pick, and a fumble recovery. He even lined up at receiver and snagged seven touchdowns, just for good measure. That kind of two-way dominance is exactly what Clemson fans love to see—and it’s going to fit right in with the Tigers’ tradition of elite DBs.

Building a Defensive Juggernaut

With Chandler in the fold, Clemson’s 2027 class jumps to No. 21 nationally—and you can bet that number is only going up from here.

Chandler is commitment number eight for 2027 and the sixth defender in a group that’s shaping up to be downright scary. He’s the fourth four-star in the class, joining fellow safety Harrison Luke and blue-chip linebacker Bryce Kish. The foundation for another Clemson defensive juggernaut is being laid brick by brick.

Chandler won’t have to wait long to get back to his future home. He’s already set to return for Clemson’s big May 29 recruiting weekend, where he’ll be helping bring even more top talent to Tigertown.
