The Georgia-to-Clemson pipeline is heating up again, and Tiger legend C.J. Spiller is about to reel in another game-changer for the backfield. This is the kind of recruiting win that keeps the rest of the ACC up at night.
All eyes are on Clemson as four-star running back Gary Walker, one of the crown jewels of the 2027 class, gets set to make his decision Wednesday afternoon. The momentum swung hard in the Tigers’ favor when Rivals’ Chad Simmons put in a national pick for Clemson, and now it looks like Dabo and company are about to fend off the likes of Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Penn State, and Virginia Tech for another elite playmaker.
Spiller's Relentless Pursuit
Clemson’s chase for the 6-foot, 200-pound burner hit another gear this spring, especially after Andrew Beard slipped away to Florida. With Beard out of the picture, Walker became the guy for Spiller and the staff—the only running back left on the board. After missing on a tailback in the 2026 class, the Tigers simply have to land a difference-maker like Walker to keep the offense humming.
Spiller has been all-in from the jump. Walker got his Clemson offer at the Elite Retreat in March, then came back to campus for another look before the month was out. Since then, Spiller has been everywhere—making a key in-home visit and even heading back to Creekside High on May 7 to see Walker in action. That’s the kind of effort that wins recruiting battles.
All that effort is coming together right when it matters most. Walker was supposed to visit Stanford this weekend, but the Cardinal didn’t even make his final cut on Monday. Penn State, once the biggest threat to Clemson, has faded after loading up with other backs. The path is clear for the Tigers to close the deal.
A Championship Pedigree
It’s no wonder Clemson has gone all-in for Walker. The Fairburn, Georgia native torched defenses for 1,669 yards and 20 touchdowns last fall, carrying Creekside High to a 4A state title. That’s the kind of production that turns heads in Death Valley.
Walker’s vision and physicality have every major scout buzzing. Both 247Sports and Rivals have him among the top eight backs in the 2027 class, and the Composite puts him comfortably inside the national Top 150. This is a blue-chip back built for the big stage.
Now it’s all eyes on Wednesday. With the experts lining up behind Clemson, Tiger Nation is holding its breath. Walker could be the spark that takes this class—and the offense—to another level.
