Matt Luke isn’t just out here recruiting—he’s making moves like a grandmaster, setting up Clemson for a checkmate.

It stung to see Jimmy Kalis slip away to Ohio State, but Clemson isn’t licking its wounds—they’re coming out swinging for 2027. On Sunday, four-star offensive lineman Carter Jones out of Poquoson, Virginia, dropped his Final Four, and you better believe the Tigers are right in the thick of it alongside Georgia, Tennessee, and Penn State.

At 6-foot-6 and nearly 295 pounds, Jones is exactly the kind of lineman Clemson fans dream about anchoring the trenches. He’s a Top-50 prospect for a reason, but what really sets him apart is his ability to play anywhere on the line—tackle or inside. Dabo knows this is the guy who could be the crown jewel of the 2027 class.

The "Strategic" Visit Schedule

In recruiting, getting the last word can mean everything—and Clemson has set itself up perfectly. Jones already made his rounds to Georgia and Penn State, but the real showdowns are coming up in May:

  • May 21: Tennessee Volunteers
  • May 29–31: CLEMSON TIGERS (The "Big Official Visit" Weekend)

By getting the final crack during Clemson's legendary "Elite Retreat" follow-up weekend, Matt Luke and Dabo Swinney will have the opportunity to erase any momentum gained by Kirby Smart or James Franklin.

The Matt Luke Redemption

Jones is no stranger to Tiger Town—he’s been on campus plenty, including a stop at the Elite Retreat in March. For Matt Luke, this one means a little more. After stacking five Top-40 offensive linemen in 2026, he’s hungry to keep that Trench Masterclass rolling into 2027.

Jones isn't just a "big body"—Jones isn’t just a big body—he’s a true athlete with the kind of nasty streak Clemson’s offense needs up front. He’s the No. 2 interior lineman in Virginia, and if the Tigers can seal the deal on May 31, nobody will even remember the Kalis heartbreak.
