Clemson recently announced that its annual "Elite Retreat" recruiting showcase had delivered a blue-chip dividend.

On Sunday night, four-star linebacker Bryce Kish from Howell, Michigan, announced his intention to join the Tigers through social media. The commitment comes as a result of a whirlwind weekend on campus for the 6-foot-4, 220-pound defender, who selected Clemson over the multitude of Big Ten offers, which include hometown giants Michigan and Michigan State.

Kish is a significant victory for the Dabo Swinney staff in the border war. No. 60 overall prospect and No. 5 linebacker of the 2027 cycle by Rivals, Kish has a rare combination of prototypical size and sideline-to-sideline range that has emerged as a lynchpin of the Clemson defensive culture.

Securing Kish was no small task for defensive coordinator Tom Allen.

More than 20 scholarship offers were opened to the Michigan native, and his recruiting became a battleground for the top programs of the Midwest. With Michigan schools, as well as Wisconsin, Iowa State, Louisville, and Rutgers, Kish turned down opportunities.

Finally, the atmosphere of the “Elite Retreat” — Clemson’s grand spring recruiting show — sealed the deal. Kish's commitment will continue to reflect the Tigers having been able to steal top defensive talent from the North and grow their pipeline in the future.

Kish is the sixth player to join Clemson’s 2027 class, a club that, at the moment, is starting to form into a top-10 nationally. He joins a defensive-heavy haul that includes cornerback Christian “PJ” Chancellor Jr., safety Harrison Luke, and fellow linebacker Max Brown.

Trey Wimbley (WR).

Max Brown (LB).

Kharim Hughley (QB).

Harrison Luke (S).

Christian “PJ” Chancellor Jr. (CB)

Kish is 220 pounds and 6-foot-4, a body with the physical infrastructure to play several roles within the Clemson scheme. His height allows him to help out in passing lanes, and his weight suggests he can add another 15-20 pounds of "good mass" on the body under the Tigers' strength and conditioning program without losing the pace that makes him a top-five prospect.

With Kish in the fold, Clemson has already locked down two very decent linebackers for the 2027 class before spring practice even starts. For a program with the "homegrown" mentality of their coaching style, picking such a ready-made physical specimen as Kish will guarantee the center of the Tigers' defense remains a "no-fly zone" for the foreseeable future.
