The Summer of Commitment has arrived, and Clemson is right in the thick of it, battling for one of the Midwest’s most ferocious playmakers.
On Thursday, four-star linebacker Roman Igwebuike out of Chicago trimmed his list to a Final Five, and the Tigers are right there in the hunt alongside Indiana, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Missouri. After striking out on their first wave of linebacker targets, Dabo Swinney and new defensive coordinator Tom Allen have zeroed in on the 6-3, 220-pound Igwebuike as their top priority—no question about it.

The "Tom Allen" Factor
Clemson’s got an ace up its sleeve in this battle: Tom Allen. The former Indiana head man knows Chicago like the back of his hand, and he’s using every connection he’s got to lure Igwebuike down to Tiger Town. When Roman visited for the Elite Retreat in March, Allen and Ben Boulware made sure he left with a Clemson offer in hand, and they’ve been relentless ever since.
The "State Champ" Stats
Igwebuike isn’t just another name on a list—he’s a flat-out winner. He led Chicago powerhouse Mt. Carmel to a perfect season and an Illinois 8A State Championship, and his junior year numbers jump off the page:
- Total Tackles: 115 (Team-high)
- Tackles for Loss: 13.5
- Sacks: 7.0
- Turnovers: 3 Forced Fumbles, 2 Interceptions.
He’s ranked No. 149 in the country and No. 8 in Illinois, but what really stands out is his rare blend of sideline-to-sideline speed and the kind of 220-pound frame that can bring the hammer in the ACC.
The Official Visit Gauntlet
Notre Dame might have the home-field advantage for now, but Clemson locked down the all-important May 29 official visit. Here’s the gauntlet leading up to his July 11 decision:
- May 16: Indiana
- May 29: CLEMSON
- June 5: Missouri
- June 12: Notre Dame
- June 19: Tennessee
If the Tigers can reel in this Chicago standout, he’d be the eighth pledge in a class that’s already pushing Top-25 status—and he’d team up with Bryce Kish to give Clemson arguably the most athletic linebacker duo in the entire 2027 cycle.
