Sammy Brown wins High School Butkus Award
Congratulations to Clemson Football Class of 2024 commitment Sammy Brown for winning the 2023 High School Butkus Award.
The Butkus Award is bestowed annually on the most outstanding linebacker in football. While it is best known for the collegiate version, it is also awarded to the most outstanding high school and professional linebackers.
Brown plays offense, defense, and special teams for Jefferson High School, and helped lead them to a region title and the semifinals of their playoffs. He registered 153 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions and three blocked punts.
By the way, he rushed for 2,289 yards and 36 touchdowns, caught 11 receptions and 4 touchdowns, and completed two passes, one of which was for a touchdown.
Clemson Soccer earns All-Region and All-Tournament awards
Clemson Men’s Soccer is in the College Cup, and as you might expect from a program that has that kind of success, several players are being recognized for their excellent 2023 seasons.
Ousmane Sylla has been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region First Team.
Joran Gerbet and Gael Gibert were named to the All-South Second Team. Brandon Parrish and Pape Mar Boye were named to the All-South Third Team.
Clemson Women’s Soccer advanced all the way to the College Cup as well. Hal Hershfelt has been recognized as a member of the All-Tournament Team this season.
Bracketology: As Jon Blau mentions below, it is perhaps a bit early for Bracketology, but Joe Lunardi does have Clemson Men’s Basketball slotted in as a 4-seed right now.
