Clemson Football has begun to dip its toe into the transfer portal. They have offered an offensive lineman named Alan Herron from Division II Shorter College, and plan to bring him in for an official visit to campus this month.

There is a growing belief that the Tigers won’t stop there. Their dalliance will likely be reserved compared to other programs, but the thought by many observers is that Clemson will likely look at more offensive linemen and probably defensive end.

Wide receiver is a different situation. While many fans want Clemson to bring in more talent at the position, it is not clear if the coaching staff feels any additions are warranted.

Wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham recruited two very well-respected prospects in the Class of 2025: Bryant Wesco and TJ Moore.

We have seen big performances from true freshmen wide receivers before (Justyn Ross and Sammy Watkins), so it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that Wesco and Moore can be major contributors in 2024.

Other times receivers need time to develop. Tee Higgins really didn’t blossom until his sophomore season.

Antonio Williams and Tyler Brown both excelled beyond expectations as freshmen, but neither campaign came close to the level of play exhibited by Ross in 2018 when the Tigers won the national championship.

There are some notable names the Tigers can pursue if they choose to jump into the portal, though it is unknown which prospects are looking for a chance to play with a big-time program, looking for a NIL payday, or looking for guaranteed playing time.

In other words, is Clemson what they are looking for?

Here are the top five wide receivers in the portal that have not announced a destination per 247Sports.
