Prediction: Clemson Football at South Carolina

It’s been a while since we’ve said both teams in this game have had a disappointing season.

Clemson was down in 2021, but the Gamecocks were having a fairly pleasing season under first-year head coach Shane Beamer. The Gamecocks took another step with Spencer Rattler at the helm in 2022 and were coming off a red-hot victory over Tennessee when they beat Clemson last year.

This year, the Cocks are 5-6 and need this victory to go bowling. Clemson slipped another game this season and will fail to win ten games for the first time since 2010.

You wouldn’t know this game is ‘down’ if you have seen much of the chatter on social media this week. It’s been quite entertaining.

I tip my hat to Rattler. He’s been very good overall this year. Xavier Legette has been very good too.

After that, my impression from the preseason stands. I once thought the Gamecocks could win 8 games and finish third in the SEC East. Then I saw their first depth chart of the season.

At the risk of being disrespectful, I was a bit stunned when I saw that depth chart. It shocked me how many of the other names I respected from the Gamecocks in 2022 were gone. Juice Wells was injured on top of that.

In my head, I knew they had all left, but it wasn’t until that moment that I realized that this roster didn’t have many proven players outside of Rattler and Wells.

The Tigers must be prepared and not take the Gamecocks lightly, particularly Rattler and Legette. Otherwise, I think the Tigers have the advantage between the two rosters and between the two coaching staffs.

Rattler and XL will get theirs, much the same as Drake Maye and Tex Walker couldn’t be completely stopped. After that, I expect there to be far fewer yards allowed on the ground than there were against UNC, and I think we will see a similar performance from the Clemson running backs as we saw last weekend.

Will it be Phil Mafah? Or will it be Will Shipley? It doesn’t matter.

I like Clemson minus the points and I will take the under.
