Clemson Football: Tigers win big over Florida Atlantic

Clemson Football put together their best effort of the season as they defeated Florida Atlantic on Saturday night 48-14.
Clemson kicked off to start the game. After an initial first down by the Owls, the Tigers pit FAU into a third and long. Casey Thompson’s pass was picked by Nate Wiggins and he took it to the house. Clemson led 7-0.
The Tiger defense forced a punt, and the offense got their first series at their own 21 yard line after a penalty. They drove consistently down the FAU 30 when Cade Klubnik uncorked a shot into the end zone for Tyler Brown’s first touchdown reception of his career. Robert Gunn banged the extra point off the goal posts, so Clemson’s lead was 13-0.
The Owls went three and out on their third drive. The attempted a fake punt but the Tigers stopped them a yard short of the first down marker.
The Tigers attempted a 31 yard field goal but Gunn missed it. Khalil Barnes picked off Thompson on the first play of FAU’s fourth series and the Clemson offense took back over.
Klubnik quickly found Jake Briningstool for his first touchdown reception of the season. The point after was good and Clemson held a 20-0 lead at the end of the first half.
Following another Owl punt, the Tigers got a big first down catch from Adam Randall. Phil Mafah followed it with a touchdown run to put the Tigers up 27-0.
On FAU’s next play, Barnes ripped the ball away from the receiver, but it just dribbled out of bounds before he could recover it.
FAU put together a nice drive, but Thompson was injured. The Owls were backed up following a sack, so they settled for a field goal attempt, but they missed left.
Clemson drove quickly into the red zone. Klubnik scored on a quarterback sneak and the Tigers held a 34-0 lead at halftime.
Both offenses struggled to move the football at the beginning of the third quarter. Brown muffed a punt, giving FAU the ball in Clemson territory. The Tiger defense held, forcing a fourth down attempt. The ball was picked off by Wade Woodaz, who returned it into the Florida Atlantic red zone.
The Tigers went for it on fourth down but came up short. FAU took over on their own 3 yard line. A pass interference on Toriano Pride gave the Owls some breathing room, but the defense forced a punt. Brown caught this one and returned it 55 yards to set the offense up in plus territory.
The offense finally found the end zone in the second half with a strike to Brown. Clemson led 41-0.
Clemson Football was able to get several reserves playing time against FAU
Florida Atlantic was driving the ball as the 4th quarter began. The Owls finally found the end zone on a 4th down attempt from the 1 yard line. Clemson led 41-7.
Hunter Helms took over at quarterback and drove the offense into the red zone. Domonique Thomas found the end zone, and Clemson led 48-7.
FAU began driving the ball better against Clemson’s reserve defense and once again found the red zone. This time the defense forced a fumble that was recovered by Zaire Patterson.
Paul Tyson took over at quarterback as the clock ran under four minutes. His series went three and out. The Owls got the ball back and used a trick play to score a touchdown. Clemson led 48-14.
Jarvis Green had a good kickoff return to put the offense in good position. Trent Pearman got the call at quarterback. The drive ran out the clock and the fans met at The Paw.
