As Clemson prepares to play Florida Atlantic in Week 3, I have seen a few people lamenting how dull this weekend’s college football schedule appears, especially in comparison to Week 4.

It’s easy to get caught looking ahead, but sometimes it can cost you. Plus it always seems like the “boring” weekends turn out to have the most surprises.

There are a few ACC teams that are going on the road this weekend. Florida State visits Boston College in the only conference matchup of the weekend. The Seminoles shouldn’t have a problem with the Eagles, but a few other games could be interesting.

We will have another ACC vs. SEC game when Georgia Tech travels to Ole Miss. The Rebels had a competitive contest at Tulane this past weekend. It’s not impossible that they could have a letdown. The Yellow Jackets played Louisville close in Week 1.

Speaking of the Cardinals, they will travel to Bloomington to play the Indiana Hoosiers. While IU isn’t supposed to be a great team this year, they played Ohio State tough and were better than expected.

Elsewhere, Wake Forest travels to Old Dominion, a place other Power Five teams have found trouble in recent years, and Virginia Tech visits Rutgers, who looked good against Northwestern and Temple.

Finally, we have another edition of The Backyard Brawl. West Virginia will host Pittsburgh. The Panthers are coming off a disappointing loss to Cincinnati, while the Mountaineers dropped their opener to Penn State. Both teams will be looking to re-establish themselves before their conference schedules begin.

Clemson Football must show up ready so they aren’t the team upset in Week 3

The best matchup of the weekend in the ACC might be in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels will host the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Minnesota is unranked following victories against Nebraska and Eastern Michigan. UNC survived a scare against Appalachian State last weekend.

Around the rest of college football, there are only a handful of compelling matchups. Florida will host Tennessee in a classic rivalry. DJ Uiagalelei and the Beavers will host their biggest challenge so far, the San Diego State Aztecs. Alabama looks to right the ship in a rare road game at South Florida.

The other big game in our area is the South Carolina Gamecocks visiting the Georgia Bulldogs. Clemson fans can’t really lose here. Either South Carolina gets destroyed or Georgia fans have a meltdown because South Carolina didn’t get destroyed.

Don’t forget to check out Clemson’s future ACC rivals!

  • Cal hosts Idaho at 4:00 PM
  • SMU hosts Prairie View A&M at 7:00 PM
  • Stanford hosts Sacramento State at 8:00 PM

You know you want to check those out.

All I can tell you Clemson Nation is it is almost a statistical certainty that someone will lose a game they shouldn’t this weekend, so stay tuned.
