Clemson Football Recruiting: What’s left for the Class of 2024?
By John Chancey
Clemson Football has had its ups and downs in the past few years in recruiting, but usually, the Tigers have assembled most of their class commitments by the end of the summer.
The Class of 2024 falls in line with that, but there are a handful of spots still open that Clemson would prefer to fill.
Clemson currently has seventeen commitments in the 2024 class, and it is ranked 14th nationally by 247Sports.
The Tigers have six scholarship offers out to players in the 2024 class who have not committed, but two of them – Ryan Wingo and Jordan Seaton – are no longer in the program’s plans.
For wide receiver Wingo, Clemson filled up their spots for that position in the class and aren’t expected to pursue any more receivers.
In Seaton’s case, it likely is connected to his transfer to IMG Academy. He played at St. John’s College High School when Clemson offered him in 2022, but announced his transfer this past April.
One of the outstanding offers is to defensive end Solomon Williams from Tampa, Florida. Williams is a high 3-star prospect at Carrollwood Day School.
Another offer is out to a linebacker: Bradley Shaw, a 4-star prospect from Hoover High School in Alabama.
The last two offers are to offensive linemen, which is probably the most needed position for this class right now. The Tigers only have one offensive line commitment: Ronan O’Connell, a 3-star player from Franklin, Tennessee.
The oldest offer is to Elyjah Thurmon, a 3-star offensive line prospect from the Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, Georgia.
The most recent offer is to Daniel Akinkumni, an offensive line prospect playing for the NFL Academy in London, England. Akinkumni intends to visit Clemson for the Florida Atlantic game on September 16th.
It is unknown if Clemson will offer more players at defensive end or linebacker as the high school season progresses if Williams or Shaw do not choose the Tigers.
Clemson Football will likely pursue one or two more offensive line commitments
Clemson will likely continue to pursue offensive line prospects until they get at least one more commitment, and perhaps until they get two. If either Thurmon or Akinkumni select a different program, the next name for the Tigers might be Favour Edwin.
The curious part of Edwin’s recruitment is that he has never played high school football – 2023 will be his first season. He moved to the United States two years ago. Despite never playing a down of high school ball, he has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and three other programs.
Edwin, who attends the same high school as freshman Zack Owens, is a player the Tigers could offer after they have had a chance to evaluate some of his game film.
