Clemson Tigers News: ESPN rankings, CBS All-Americans and Megan Bornkamp

Clemson Women’s Soccer 0, South Carolina 0 – The Tigers opened their season against the No. 12 ranked Gamecocks and earned a point with a draw. Clemson led possession 63% to 37%. Goalkeeper Halle Mackiewicz had two saves in her first clean sheet of the season.

Clemson Football falls two spots in ESPN class rankings

The Clemson Football Class of 2024 is ranked 11th by ESPN in their most recent class rankings, down two spots from 9th in their previous ranking.

ESPN points to the commitments of Bryant Wesco, Sammy Brown and Christian Bentancur as the foundation of the class. The Tigers have the second best class in the Atlantic Coast Conference after Florida State. They are ranked one spot ahead of South Carolina at No. 12.

ESPN has Clemson Football at 9th in their Power Rankings

ESPN also updated their college football power rankings, and they have the Tigers at 9th which matches the AP Top 25 poll. A group of 57 different personalities at the network voted on the power rankings.

In Andrea Adelson’s write-up, she explains that the best-case scenario is a playoff berth, but it is hard to imagine the floor being below ten wins.

"“This team has won at least 10 games for 12 straight years, so it is hard to imagine any floor that goes lower than 10 wins. But there is some degree of difficulty involved in this schedule, with road games against NC State (Clemson lost here in 2021) and South Carolina and home games against preseason-ranked Florida State, Notre Dame (Clemson lost at South Bend last year) and North Carolina. Clemson should still be favored to win all or nearly all these games.”"

CBS names three Tigers to their preseason All-American teams

CBS named linebacker Jeremiah Trotter to their preseason All-American first-team this week. Linebacker Barrett Carter and defensive tackle Tyler Davis were named to the second-team.

The ACC had seven total selections, which was fourth among the conferences.

Clemson Women’s Soccer player Megan Bornkamp has been named to the Hermann Trophy watchlist.

The Hermann Trophy is awarded annually by the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) to the top men’s and women’s college soccer players in the nation.
