Clemson Football has appeared in four of the first nine College Football Playoffs national championship games, and they hope to be returning as soon as possible.

The playoff will be changing significantly starting next season when it will expand from four to twelve teams. First-round games will be on campuses, and all the New Year’s Six bowl games will be involved every season as they rotate semifinals and quarterfinals.

The championship game itself will not change significantly. The CFP will continue to rotate the game to different markets and stadiums that meet their selection criteria.

This season’s national championship will be played at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas on January 8, 2024. This is the first time Houston has hosted the championship game.

The 2024 championship game will be at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. This will be the second time Atlanta has hosted the game. The first was in 2017.

The 2025 championship game will be at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. This will be the second time the Miami area has hosted the game. The first was in 2020.

The 2025 championship game was originally scheduled to be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The game was moved to Miami to avoid conflicts with the Consumer Electronics Show, which will be held in Las Vegas at the same time. It is reasonable to assume that Las Vegas is on a short list of cities to host the game in 2026 and beyond.

Clemson Football won the national championship in Tampa and Santa Clara, which could host the game in 2026 and beyond

Other possible host cities include those that have hosted the game before are Arlington, Texas (2014), Glendale, Arizona (2015), Tampa, Florida (2016), Santa Clara, California (2018), New Orleans, Louisiana (2019), Indianapolis, Indiana (2020), and Inglewood, California (2021).

The most likely of these locations to host the game again might be Indianapolis. The 2020 game had limited attendance because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Indianapolis probably deserves to host the full array of activities that normally accompany the championship game.

Perhaps the least likely of the previous hosts to get another game is Santa Clara, where Clemson won the 2018 championship. While the attendance ended up at 74,814, there were a lot of negative opinions expressed regarding the game site. Many noted apathy for the event in the community.

Other possibilities include San Antonio, Texas, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Jacksonville, Florida, which have all bid on the game before.
