Clemson Tigers News: Recruiting, Trevor Lawrence MVP and Hunter Tyson

The Clemson Tigers football program is in one of the busiest seasons for commitments, which means Morgan Thomas is keeping busy updating the commitment chart that he manages so well.

The Tigers received commitments from Sammy Brown, Bryant Wesco, TJ Moore, Ricardo Jones and Darien Mayo during June. Those players account for five of the Tigers’ top six commitments on the 247Sports Composite.

Clemson target Corian Gipson will announce his commitment on July 22nd.

One of the Tigers’ 2025 commitments just debuted on ESPN’s ranking. Quarterback Brian Hebert is now the 122nd ranked player nationally, and the 3rd ranked dual threat quarterback. Clemson’s other 2025 commit, Gideon Davidson, is ranked 51st.

Don’t forget 2024 target William Satterwhite will announce his decision today between Clemson and Tennessee. We’ll have discussion on Rubbing The Rock either later today or tomorrow morning (depending on which school he chooses).

Trevor Lawrence bounced back following a rough rookie season (thanks Urban Meyer!) and led the Jaguars to the playoffs in 2022. Looking ahead, Lawrence is now considered the sixth most-likely to win the NFL MVP award in 2023.

Lawrence was also named to the All Under 25 team by NFL.com.

Clemson Tigers alumni have been busy recently

Hunter Tyson has signed his rookie contract with the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets. It has been reported to be a four-year deal worth $7.7 million, with the first three seasons fully guaranteed.

Alice Hewson is playing in the U.S. Women’s Open this weekend at Pebble Beach in California. Hewson is a 2019 Clemson graduate and was an All-American for the Tigers. She set 49 school records between 2015-19. Hewson plays on the Ladies European Tour and was ranked 11th on the LET going into the weekend. She shot +2 on Thursday and is tied for 39th place.

Fun fact from this past weekend: former Clemson linebacker Tig Williard was part of the pit crew for the winning team in the NASCAR Chicago Street Race this past weekend. The No. 91 car was driven by Shane van Gisbergen.
