Clemson Football has received another verbal commitment for the Class of 2024. Drew Woodaz of Tampa, Florida announced his commitment to the Tigers on Thursday night.

Drew is the brother of rising sophomore Wade Woodaz. Drew was rated as a 3-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He plays high school football at Jesuit High School in Tampa.

Wade was not one of those prospects that got a lot of fans excited when he was being recruited by former defensive coordinator Brent Venables, and many assumed he would be a redshirt prospect as a true freshman. That changed when Wade got on the field, and he is now expected to be a starter in 2023 as a true sophomore.

Drew has an even lower grade in the Composite than his brother, but he shows a lot of the same characteristics as Wade. This has led many to believe that Drew can have the same kind of impact in the college game.

Drew’s Hudl film will remind you of his brother’s high school highlights. At 6’3” and 200 pounds, Drew has the frame to grow into a college linebacker, but like Wade, he usually lines up for Jesuit as a safety, usually the strong safety.

Drew demonstrates quickly why college teams see him as a linebacker prospect – he hits hard. He is very physical and strong.

As his film progresses, we see more examples of Drew roaming as the free safety, and sometimes lining up at cornerback or nickelback. His tall frame gives him an advantage over smaller wide receivers.

Clemson Football has found another defender who can flex between linebacker and defensive back in Drew Woodaz

As Wade has transitioned his experience as a safety in high school to allow him to flex from linebacker to defensive back at Clemson, logically Drew will bring a similar skill set to the Tiger defense.

Drew’s commitment is the seventh of the 2024 Class for Clemson. He is the first linebacker commit for this cycle. Clemson’s class is now ranked 18th in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Attention now turns to the scheduled announcement from defensive tackle prospect Hevin Brown-Shuler, who has been projected to select Clemson by multiple outlets. Brown-Shuler’s ceremony begins at 5:30 PM Eastern time, with an announcement to follow soon after.
